ILLEGAL carriage of passengers was
going on all over Northern Ireland, but evidence was hard to obtain, it was stated at Newtownards (Co. Antrim) Petty Sessions, last week. Mr. Foster Coates, for the Ulster Transport Authority, said they took a serious view of a case in which John McGlade, Belfast, faced eight summonses connected with the transport of passengers in a small bus.
Four police charges were that he used an unlicensed vehicle for carrying passengers for reward, and that he used the vehicle without insurance. The U.T.A. accused him of carrying the passengers without the Authority's consent or the approval of the Ministry of Commerce.
McGladc was fined E.3 15s. in each case, with £3 3s. costs.
