EDINBURGH'S PROPOSED £2-a-day road toll could be abandoned if a referendum reflects the latest opinion poll.
The poll of more than 1,000 Edinburgh residents indicated that the proposals will be rejected by more than two to one. Almost half of all residents will vote -no" to the toll, while only one in five plans to vote "yes", according to a survey carried out on behalf of The Scotsnum newspaper. About a quarter are undecided. The proposed tolls would run from Monday to Friday with two cordons, one in the city centre running from 7am-6.30pm, and one just inside the city bypass operating from 7am-10am.
Edinburgh city council says it will use toll revenues to improvi public transport. It has spent abou £600.000 on the two-week posta referendum, which closes on 2 February.
