Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

of the new green driving licences — his normal licence, not hgv. Yet when I renewed my ordinary driving licence recently, I got the old-style threeyear red one again. How is the new licence arrangement working — and for that matter, what is it anyway?

A The DOE has made it clear that

by 1977 all British drivers should have a new-style green licence, in a transparent wallet, issued by the Driving and Vehicle Licensing Centre (the DVLC) at Swansea. But some drivers will not be affected by the change-over until 1976, and in the period up to 1977 some drivers will get a red old-style three-year licence issued by their local taxation office in the traditional way.

The local taxation offices will progressively transfer drivers' licensing records to DVLC when they apply to the local offices for licence renewal; the application form will be available in the usual way from the post office or local taxation office, and it will state where it has to be sent when completed.

When an application has been sent to the local office and the driving records are being switched to Swansea, drivers will be given a receipt for the application so that they have documentary evidence for continuing to drive while waiting for their new licence to be sent from the DVLC.
