educational courses In transport once membership of the Chartered Institute of Transport has been achieved? It seems to me that all that Is available involves fidl-tbne attendance at particular courses and this presents almost insurmountable difficulties. Is the only alternative to apply for university entrance to a transport degree course as a mature student?
A The opportunities for corporate
members of the Chartered Institute of Transport to take higher degree courses are at the moment very limited, but the CIT is endeavouring to widen this scope. You are correct in saying that the opportunities so far involve attendance fulltime in a one-year course although there are opportunities to take a Transport MSc course at Birmingham University under "sandwich" arrangements over two years involving full-time attendance on two separate occasions for a few months.
The Chartered Institute is endeavouring to make arrangements for universities whereby corporate members will be able to take a master's degree course part-time by thesis, but so far no satisfactory arrangements have emerged.
.1 take it that you are thinking of a first degree in transport run by the Open University but, as yet, no such degree exists, although one can take a first degree in economics, and aspects of planning.
This seems to be the extent of "home study" available to you at the moment but I think it is important to keep in touch with the Chartered Institute and watch developments in the near future.
