• A decision on a pay deal giving £2.32 a week increases, back-dated to April 1, to more than 3100 skilled maintenance men employed by municipal bus companies is being delayed by the Pay Board.
The Board has asked the employers for details of all local settlements since January 1972. The agreed increases are believed to fall within the Government's plus 4 per cent pay limit, but local rises for some workers could affect the amounts which can be paid in a national agreement.
Angry union officials said the maintenance men have been waiting for basic rate increases since February 1 and many are leaving municipal bus companies for better paid jobs.
