Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A CARDIFF municipal bus driver, Edwin J. Hale, won his appeal at Cardiff Quarter Sessions, last week, against a sentence of two months' .imprisonment and two years' suspension_of driving licence on a charge of :dangerous driving.

The case arose out of a collision -betWeen 1-talc's bus and a cycle on 'April 18.

Allowing the appeal, after a fourhour hearing, the Recorder (Mr. H. Glyn-Jones, K.C.) said that the conduct of the appellant, although worthy of censure, did not amount to dangerous driving:within the meaning of the Road Traffic Act.

The conduct of the bus driver, said Mr. Glyn.-Jones,. would be calculated .0 make an unfavourable impression on 'any ` Conti Whichhad to try his .case., When the cyclist arrived at the junction of Queen Street and Kingsway, he stopped on the near side of the road, with one foot on the pavement, waiting for. the green . traffic light.

Possibly because he was in conversation with someone,: he failed to notice the green "arrow" signal. When this signal appeared. Hale, driving his bus in the same direction, told the cyclist to move off.,

• Hale, said the Recorder, drove on ti-feliv feet, leaving space too narrow for ff.:. cyclist's comfort, but not too _narrow for his personal safety,. He stopped because he could not get around the corner, then moved off again and ran over the cycle, while the cyclist stood on the pavement.

At a meeting in Cardiff, last month, 400 bus drivers and conductors, members of the Transport r.nd General Workers' Union, objected to the " severity " of the sentence.
