t Commercial Motor is sad to report the recent death of John Nancoills at the young age of 52, after a long, pragmatic and steadfast battle against cancer.

John came from a family with extremely strong local ties with Cheshire truck manufacturing. His father Harold was a senior engineer at Foden, while his younger brother Stuart, also a former Foden apprentice, now works for ERE

John himself joined Foden's PR department in 1971 after completing an HND in Business Studies, eventually becoming head of the department. In 1982, two years after the Paccar buyout, he left Fodisn to join Barry Hook Associates, the Stockport-based PR agency where he was subsequently invited to become a partner.

Throughout his time at Barry Hook Associates, John played a key part in devel aping an impressive portfolio of transport Industry clients including Fontaine VBG, GrannIng Lynx, Dennison Trailers, Hyva, Volvo and BR& In addition to his ability to generate strong respect from his clients, John also had the knack of 'getting an' with transport journalists, who warmed to his no-nonsense approach and keen sense of humour.

John was also a keen local sportsman, playing for Northwich Rugby club, and latterly went on to be the club's chairman. A life-long follower of Manchester City FC, John was always a keen supporter of the underdog and the principle of fair play, whatever team he happened to be watching. He will be greatly missed by all his colleagues in the industry.

Our condolences to his wife Pat and his sons Ben and Tom.
