THE Association of County Councils is to organise a seminar on the overloading of goods vehicles later this year, following encouraging response to a recent ACC publication on the overloading of goods vehicles and enforcement considerations.
The Department of Transport has already told the ACC that there will be a 50 per cent increase in weighbridge expenditure in 1982/83, with the Department meeting the full costs of new weighbridges and associated works.
At a meeting with the Magistrates' Association, the ACC was told that the policy on awarding costs was now under review, and the Home Office has informed the ACC that it proposed to raise the maximum fine to £1,000.
The Association is worried that the 50 per cent increase in weighbridge expenditure will not be enough.
