WOULD IT be possible to appeal through your columns for transport help for our action?

We are a registered charity run by qualified doctors and pharmacists who are sending out regular truck loads of medical supplies to Poland.

In February we sent three thirty-tonne trucks with £70,000 worth of medical goods, and in March a further two trucks with £83,000 worth of medical aid. We are now preparing our April trucks.

Many people have been very generous and given us enormous assistance, for which we are extremely grateful. We have been lent the following: Rentco — five 40foot tilt trailers; Chris Hudson International — 1 40-foot trailer; British Leyland — two tractor units; Dodge and Wincanton — one tractor unit each. Other firms — Huntara, Anvilight, D. L. Turner Transport, Wincanton, have sponsored drivers. Sealink has given us free channel crossings and Huntara has arranged our insurance.

Our trucks, filled with supplies, were a very welcome sight to the people of Poland. Parked outside churches or hospitals they attracted a great deal of attention and were a great morale booster for the people; they feel they are not alone, or forgotten by the West. Bishop Domin, who is in charge of the Church Charity commission in Poland, wrote to us thanking the transport firms in particular, for the help they had given Poland.

Please could you help us in the following months to send out our aid as quickly and efficiently as possible. We need tractor units with sleeper cabs, 12-metre tilt trailers with rigid sides suitable for TIR transportation, and drivers with HGV1 licences who have driven on the Continent. The round trip takes approximately eight days. We are willing to pay nominal costs for the transport.

We would also be grateful for assistance with transport round England. Doctors and pharmaceutical firms are offering us supplies all over England, and we need to pick these up for storage and loading in London.
