Road Sweepers Required in Uruguay.

The municipal authorities of Montevideo are calling for tenders, which have to be presented in that city by June 5, for the supply of six mechanical street sweepers and collectors. Those concerns in a position to supply

products of United Kingdom manufacture may obtain fuller particulars by applying to the Department of Overseas Trade, 35, Old Queen Street; London, S.W.1, reference TY30053 being quoted.

DRIVERS CAN HELP TO SPREAD GOODWILL.

. A way in which drivers employed by concerns observing fair wages and conditions of labour could help their employers, as against firms who did not offer such conditions to their staffs, was described by Mr. Frank Plaits, partner of Messrs. Platts Bros., haulage contractors of Leicester and Norwich, at the annual staff dinner at Leicester, on Monday. "When you meet drivers of other firms at wayside cafés on your journeys, tell them about your conditions," he said. "You will be helping the industry."

Mr. Platts distributed" safety-firat " certificates to 20 of the firm's 28 drivers, 12 of them being from Norwich and eight from Leicester. Twelve of the recipients had gained similar awards during the preceding year.

Caterham Urban District Council has accepted the following tenders for the hire of transport for 12 months:— Messrs. Brush and Son, Caterham, 30cwt. and 2-ton lorries, 3s. per hour, 23s. per day; cartage from station to various sites in the district, 2s. 3d. to 2s. 6d. per ton. Messrs. C. R. Vigar, Caterham, 30-cwt. lorry, 3s. per hour, 24s. per day. Messrs. T. Scott and Sons, Warlingham, 2-ton lorry, 3s. 9d. per hour, 27s. 6d. per day.
