-13 ARE and brilliant sunshine bathed the rarer and, in -I-Nwsome cases, even more brilliant entries in the annual rally of the Historic Commercial Vehicles Club at the depot,park. of Harold Wood andSons. Ltd., at Basildon on Sunday. Outright winner of the concours d'elegance, and .by .a. -handsome margin, was the 1922 8-cwt, Model T Ford van entered by V. E. Brewster. An admirable example of the restorer's craft, the entry was as notable for the perfection of its paintwork as for the almost original condition of engine and chassis.

A se"cond Ford T, • of 1915 vintage, entered by D. • Ephgrave, won the class for the most venerable vehicles and with it, The Commercial Motor Cup. Best • turned-out of the .passeriger vehicles was the 1913 Commer shooting brake in Lord Lonsdale's yellow livery, entered by L. G. W. Tate.

Sunday's . event was notable' . fora heartening revival in the steamer, several examples of which, varying from a Steam fire-pump to a magnificent showman's tractor, enlivened the rally. More difficult than in previous years, the driving tests were won by a suitably dashing performance by a 1916 Dennis. fire-engine, entered by Dr. E. R. Roberts, of the Royal College of Science.

Runner-up _was a new performer, an impressive 1922 De Dion Bouton sweeper rescued from the municipality of Menton where it was in regular use within recent memory.
