?THE first cafeteria for users of MI was I opened in the Newport Pagnell service area on Monday. It is situated about 35 miles from the southern end of the motorway. Refreshments and free toilet and parking facilities are now available in addition to the refuelling service. Next month similar facilities will be available at the Watford Gap service area.

Drivers will be -informed on approaching a service area by new signs which will replace the existing fuel signs. They will he similar in scale, colour and design to other motorway signs.

M5 SERVICE AREA MOVE A CONTRACT has been awarded to 1-1. Kennings, Ltd., of Clay Cross, Derbyshire, for development of the Strensharn service area on the northern section of the Bristol-Birmingham motorway. At present only the Strensham service area will be developed on the motorway, which is expected to be opened to traffic in the autumn of 1961. Land is being acquired for development of a service area near Droitwich, although no plans have yet been made for it.

WOLVERHAMPTON MEN SEEK PLUS-RATES

WWOLVERHAMPTON Transport ComYv rnittee has been asked by the local branch of the Transport and General Workers Union to introduce an incentive bonus scheme for plattorm staff. Some weeks ago the committee rejected a union demand for an increase in the weekly rate above the nationally-agreed minimum.
