FARMERS FOR ACTT( (FFA) has renewed its call i operators to back further bloc ades of dairies after it rejectec lp/lit increase in milk prices 1 week (CM9 October).
The protest group says 5,0 farmers joined in last week's pi tests at Dairy Crest. Express Da ies and Co-op's ACC milk planti claims support is growing.
David Handley. FFA chainn says: "We will keep the pressure —we have a right to make a living.1 realise that hauliers are being unni essarily caught up in the blockac but we have asked, begged a pleaded for an increase. There nothing else that we can do.
"We led the fuel protest a have always stuck by our haula colleagues so we are now aski them to support us. If we show sc darity it may even benefit them the long run; they may also be at to negotiate better rates."
A spokesman for the Co-op sa "There is currently an oversupi of milk which is driving the pri down. We are currently in t process of seeing whether we c increase our price to customers a pass some of this onto farmers."
FFA is demanding an immediz 2p/lit rise in the farm-gate mi price with a further 2p/lit in Janus The price is currently 15.5p1 which farmers say is less than costs them to produce the milk.
