Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MORE THAN 100 drivers and warehouse workers at Scunthorpe haulier PD Logistics are to vote on whether to strike for more pay.

The pay dispute. which has already seen one unofficial walkout, could take the shine off the firm's Technology Supply Chain award win at a Motor Transport prize ceremony earlier this month.

Workers at the company, whose clients include steel-maker Corus, staged an unofficial walk-out last Monday (6 October) but their union, the United Road Transport Union, persuaded them to return to work and only to resort to striking after an official ballot.

Drivers are asking for £6.50/ hr: so far the company has only offered £6.25/hr.A meeting of the workforce has already voted to reject that, says URTU national officer Roy Abrahams.

The wage increase on the table for drivers is already substantially more than the present rate ot £5.20/hr an hour. Non-drivers are being offered £5.75/hr: they are also on E5.20/hr at present.

Abrahams says: "On the face of it, it looks like a large increase, but consolidated into it are bonuses for productivity." Current bonuses range from £254150 a week but Abrahams says a "significant minority" of staff get no bonuses.

Nobody at PD Logistics was available for comment.
