VAN, WILL BE IN CM FIRST!

By the time you read this the winners of the International Van and Truck of the Year awards will have received their trophies at this week's RAI International Road Transport show in Amsterdam. We've previewed the nominees over the past couple of weeks and the successful products in both categories look like continuing the rich tradition of the award where only the best are rewarded.

The new-look Commercial Motor is now the lead title in the UK for this prestigious award. • Tanker drivers could yet bring about the threatened fuel strike action predicted by many a couple of weeks ago. The drivers, represented by the Transport & General Workers Union, are threatening to bring the country to its knees unless the government acts to improve pay and pension conditions (see page 7). MSAs charge for the privilege of parking up for the right. and then give inadequate toilet facilities, too far from the truck park and often fail to disinfect the inevitable mess left each morning. Hygiene, security, availability, safety... these are issues the government has to start taking seriously if we are to address the skills shortage and crime epidemic threatening our industry.
