Many Interesting Features Embodied in Single-deck Buses with Brush Bodies Mounted on Albion Chassis, for Service on H.E.H. the Nizam's State Railway Road Services

401INTED on Albion Valkyrie chassis, a number of allal metal single-deck bodies of interesting design and construction has recently been built by the Brush Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd., Loughborough, for use on H.E.H. the Nizam's State Railway Road Services, hi the State of Hyderabad, India. The bodies have been built to suit special climatic conditions, and the framing is of patented design. The structure provides ample strength and durability, and at the same time the weight is low.

Interchangeability of any of the components is ensured by building each section on special jigs, and the simple construction of the built-up parts allows of easy access to any portion of the body.

The general construction of the framework is of 30-ton high-tensile lipped channel steel, bolted with 60-ton hightensile-steel bolts. Aluminium-alloy castings are inserted at all framing joints to prevent distortion or the crushing of any particular section.

The underframe is of welded construction, and has riveted to it a metal floor of aluminium-alloy sheets h-in.

thick. The underside of the floor is protected against corrosion by a coating of bitumastic paint, and where the metal sheet is in contact with the steel members, Leyland adhesive rubber tape is inserted. This tape is also used in other sections where the two metals contact.

Both front and rear bulkheads are constructed on similar lines to the main body frame, with the exception of the waist rail, which is of lipped channel section. External panels and the outer roof are of aluminium, and the inside surfaces of the panels are treated with a suitable adhesive and sprayed with cork. No windows are fitted, but the seven openings on either side are each provided with a drop jalousie, consisting of a one-piece Alpax fraine with renewable aluminium louvres. The louvres may be retained in any position by the use of Quicktho balancing gears.

A special system of roof ventilation is provided with an air space between the outer roof panel and the ceiling. An air intake is fitted in the front bulkhead and along each side of the roof, whilst an extractor is provided at the fear end of the vehicle.

Eight bulkhead-type light fittings provide adequate illumination in the saloon, and the near side of the frontand rear bulkheads and the driver's cab are glazed with Triplex toughened glass. The entrance is at the rear on the near side, and an emergency door, operated by the driver, is provided at the front on the oft side.
