Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Clayton Dewandre Co. Ltd.'s air-operated splitter gearbox control for heavy vehicles is now in production. The design was developed in collaboration with Albion Motors Ltd., and introduced at the last Commercial Motor Show. Initial production batches are currently being supplied to Albion for use in its synchrO-splitter gearbox.

Because it is air-operated and controlled by a simple manual switch, the unit gives greater driver flexibility by providing a wide selection of gear ratios at the touch of a switch. It thus simplifies and improves driver control and provides a greater safety margin.

The splitter control comprises three separate parts, namely a splitter control cylinder which slots into the gearbox to split each gear, a splitter control valve to control the air supply and a two-way manual control switch which is otounted on the gear lever.

Development of the splitter control by Clayton Dewandre is part of the company's plan of evolving control units which, whenever possible, use the air pressure on the vehicle to make the driver's job easier. It follows closely on the development of air/hydraulic clutch servos which reduce the effort required by the driver to operate the clutch.
