Dexion Cantilever Racking, an addition to the Dexion range of storage and materials handling equipment, permits greater space utilization than ordinary racks by providing completely open shelf spans by eliminating uprights along the front of the rack. It also facilitates the storage and removal handling opera tions, especially when for high order-picking frequency. It is particularly suitable racking for use in the distributive trades concerned with footwear, clothing, knitwear or, indeed, any lightweight goods packed in regularly shaped cartons or rolls, Cantilever racking is available in two standard heights, 6ft 6in. and 7ft 9in. Its support come: from a central spine consisting o a series of lipped channel sectioi uprights, spaced at 3ft intervals At the bottom, the uprights an bolted to a stirrup section o punched steel, welded to a stee foot. The frequency of bracini between the uprights is de termined by the number o shelves, load and the total lengtl of the rack. There is no limit a: to the length of the rack witl this system, and the spine cal support cantilevered shelving oi both sides. Each upright has ver tical slots, measuring 2in. fron top to bottom by ;in. wide, pun ched every 3in. in the flanges o their channel section. Thesi slots are for the location of thi steel arms which provide thi support and fixing point for :MI shelves. Each steel arm slide. through these slots and is heli rigidly in position by four smal upstands, which are produced by making small indentation' into the side edges of the bar.
The length of the arm corre sponds to whichever one of th, six standard sizes of ste€ shelves from 12in. x 36in. tc 36in. x 36in, is specified. Thi shelves are bolted to the arms not to the uprights, and infil panels can be inserted at she level to prevent goods fallinc. through. Goods are containec within the shelves by nor load-bearing rods which are clip ped to the structure. Maximurr uniformly distributed loading pe steel shelf is 350Ib. when Use( in cantilever racking.
