• The specialist service provided by Norman's Removal and Transport Services Ltd., of Manchester, earned the company an addition to its A licence when the application was heard by Mr: A. H. Jolliffe. the North Western deputy L.A. in Manchester on Monday. The variation application was to add three 4+-ton vans to carry mainly new furniture and household goods within the company's existing area of operation plus the South Coast and London.

Mr. G. H. P. Beames, for the applicant company, said that letters had been received from the Prestige Group Ltd. and Smith and Nephew IManchester) Ltd., both putting on pressure for an increased service.

Mr. G. H. Wolstenholme. traffic co-ordinator for Prestige, said that sub-contractors were unsatisfactory as their drivers did not have the necessary experience of the trade. Prestige had been using Norman's since 1957 and they were essential. There would be plenty of work for the additional vehicles.

In answer to Mr. Jolliffe's question on maintenance, Mr. F. Norman said that his company had 20 vehicles on a "normal user-. and one maintenance vehicle on B licence. It had been calculated that the firm could cope with the maintenance of up to 25 vehicles without needing another vehicle to be used for repairs.
