• G. H. Pearse and Sons Ltd., building contractors of Bolton, were granted a new B licence for two tippers to carry waste building materials within 10 miles radius of base when the application was heard in Manchester on Monday by the North Western deputy LA, Mr. A. H. Jolliffe. Mr. M. Pearse, a director of the company, said that during the last three years it had been difficult to obtain tipping vehicles. This had prompted his company to buy a second tipper in December 1968. Although at peak times these two vehicles were needed they were available to work for other builders for about 75 per cent of their time.

Six letters were produced in support of the application and two witnesses appeared in

Court

Mr. Jolliffe pointed out that Pearse would not be able to carry anything but waste building materials. The emphasis was very much on the word "building".

• Due to the pressure of work in the Scottish Traffic Area, Mr. R. R. Jackson, the South Wales LA, has been helping out in the Scottish traffic courts this week. On Monday he was in Glasgow, on Tuesday Ayr and on Wednesday Edinburgh.
