Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• This year sees the third Scottish International Materials Handling Exhibition, to be held in the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, from May 19-24, and the organizers claim that it will be the largest-ever show of its kind in Scotland and the biggest to be held in the UK this year.

Many exhibitors are angling part of their displays toward the medium and small cornpanys' materials handling problems. ProdUcts to be displayed range from the simplest aids such as bins and shelving to complex, purpose-built automatic storage and retrieval systems.

Among exhibitors taking part is the Ministry of Technology, whose contribution will demonstrate the twin themes of lowcost handling and metrification.

On the Lancer Boss stand will be machines of the type involved in the recent 10-year agreement covering the manufacture and marketing of the company's trucks in North America, an agreement which will eventually be worth some £50m to the company.

Imported machinery will be on show as well as British-made exports. A new Balkancar 2-ton sideloader, thought to be the first from behind the Iron Curtain to be marketed in Britain, will be shown by John Wallace Ltd. On the same stand will be seen a Bulgariandesigned single-mast lift truck specially conceived to provide improved driver visibility and manoeuvrability in tight-corner handling.

Drive-in and pallet racking systems will be shown by Boltless Systems, and Gascoigne will exhibit American-designed Klamp-Fast infinitely adjustable cantilever arm racking. which it now manufactures under licence. Gasgoine will also launch a new fork attachment for cranes, designed to enable palletized or long loads to be picked up with ease.

Also newly introduced will be a type of bridge plate by Rolatruc, which will allow mechanical handling equipment to drive right into the container for loading and off-loading.

At the other end of the scale smaller containers for storage /handling in the industrial field will also be well represented. WCB Containers, for example, will take this opportunity to launch a completely new range of containers for the holding and transit of small components.

An extra attraction at the show will be a seminar dealing with the Transport Act 1968 and its effect on freight handling. Chaired by Mr. Colin Hardie, the seminar will be addressed by Mr. Neil Carmichael MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport: Mr. H. R. Featherstone, director-general of the FTA: and Mr. T. A. Atkin, director (general haulage) of Tayforth Ltd.

The exhibition and the seminar will be given extensive coverage by Commercial Motor in next week's issue.
