FIRST-AID CONTEST

AMBULANCE teams from the municipal transport undertakings in the cities of Birmingham, Leicester. and Nottingham will represent the Midland area in the competition for the Stirk Trophy, organized by the National Road Passenger Transport Ambulance Association.

The teams gained first three places in the Midlands area eliniinating contest at West Bromwich last Sunday, when groups from Wolverhampton, West Bromwich and the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd.; also competed.

REED DRIVERS' AWARDS

OF 350 drivers employed by the Reed Paper Group, 77 per cent, last year qualified for Rospa safe-driving awards. These were presented at a ceremony last Saturday. Reed Transport, Ltd., have 500 heavy goods vehicles and semitrailers. The Group's vehicles covered nearly 4m. miles in 1957, carrying some 350,000 ions of paper and other traffic.

MOVING TO THE WEST THE chief traffic officer with the ▪ Midland General Omnibus Co., Ltd., Mr. K. II. Wellman, has been appointed area traffic superintendent of the Western National Omnibus Co., Ltd. He will take up his new duties on June 9, and will be responsible for Western National's services in East Cornwall and South Devon.

DUTCH DEALERS' VISIT

PRODOCTION of Bedford vehicles at Dunstable was watched yesterday by 75 Dutch dealers, who were visiting the works to see Vauxhall Motors' completed expansion scheme. The previous day they had studied the assembly of cars. Earlier this month 71 Belgian dealers made a similar two-day visit to the works.
