THE North western Licensing Authority is considering the applications made to him by Lancashire United Transport, Ltd., and Leigh Transport Department for higher fares. L.U.T. propose to maintain the lid. and 2d. fares, but to increase higher charges by id.-1d. Returns may also advance. The application of the South Lanes Transport Co., Ltd., to raise trolleybus fares has been referred to the Minister of Transport. Lincoln Transport Department, which has been losing £600 a week, has been successful in its application to raise charges. This was estimated to yield an extra £30,879 annually. In the East Midland area, the Eastern Counties Omnibus Co.. Ltd., wishes to raise fares between lid. and 51d. by Zd. on 14 services. Higher charges may be advanced by Id.-4d.

Luton Town Council is considering applying to raise fares to increase revenue by £35,000 a year. A £90.000 loss was incurred on the past year's working.

The general manager of Salford Transport Department has been instructed to make proposals for increasing charges. Eastbourne Town Council has approved suggestions for raising fares and an application will be made. On existing scales the undertaking expects a loss of £7,500 at the end of the present fiscal year.
