JF Alford to face test charges

• A director of Southampton container haulier JF Alford Transport, the company's transport manager, the company and 29 of its drivers are set to face hundreds of charges relating to alleged drivers hours irregularities.
Three of the company's drivers will appear as a test case at Southampton Magistrates on 24 April for a committal hearing. There the court will decide if the case should be heard at a Crown Court or be dropped.
If the case is committed for trial, then the remaining 26 drivers will automatically appear at Southampton an 25 April for committal to a Crown Court hearing.
At the same time, the company, director James Alford and transport manager Peter Payne will appear to arrange a further date for their committal hearing.
The drivers' charges follow alleged drivers hours and falsification of tachograph offences. All the drivers were based at JF Alford's Nursling depot near Southampton.
