A NEW TRANSPORT consortium, pulling together some of the most well-known names in UK haulage, will be launched this month by the man who created Jigsaw Solutions. The group will compete with Wincanton, Stobart and DHL.

Transport consultant Paul Smith, who sold his Jigsaw shares three years ago, remains tight-lipped about the new venture, understood to be called Harlequin Logistics, until its oficial launch on 29 June. However, CM has learnt that hauliers Jack Richards & Son, R Swain, John Raymond Transport and Currie European will all be members and shareholders, providing a UK-wide logistics network.

Smith says: “They are big operators and hopefully will give a good impression. We are hitting the market at a good time, better than Jigsaw did.” He adds that by making members shareholders, it provides them with a crucial edge over the competition. “This business has all the positives that Jigsaw had when it formed but it has learnt lessons. The business will provide large-scale managed transport solutions to blue-chip manufacturers and retailers.”
