Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AP: Always dress well – it always impresses and you will be noticed and remembered. Join an association – it is great for getting to know people at the top. Accept invitations – you never know who you will meet. Be well prepared for meetings and presentations. Read the trade papers – you will learn a lot about the people who work in transport and the industry itself. Above all, make sure you are one step ahead of your opposite number. But nothing replaces hard work.

NK: Never try to manage like a man – it’s rather silly. Accept you will never be a member of the boys’ club, but you will be a good friend and trusted colleague. Do not see sexist issues in everything. It’s never too late to start a career – the only limitations will be those you put on yourself. Have faith in yourself and your capabilities, and remember that life skills learned from running a family are invaluable when managing people. Get yourself a good mentor (John Harvey is already taken!).

HD: Do not be faint-hearted, prepare for long hours, be resolute in your vision, and if you never lose sight of the job that you want to achieve, you stand the best chance of getting it. GS: Have confidence in yourself and don’t be afraid to take opportunities in your career. Take advantage of any training available, but most of all enjoy what you do.
