THE Minister of Transport is hoping produce by July the new regulations about the placing of the excess fuel device on vehicles. " But I cannot say for certain—and I cannot give an exact date," warned Mr. John Hay, the Parliamentary Secretary, when he was asked in the Commons last week what progress
was being made in this adrnendment to the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations of 1955.
The admendment will require the excess fuel device to be so placed that it cannot be used while the vehicle is in motion, and Mr. Francis Noel-Baker (Labour, Swindon) pointed out that there was a "very great deal" of feeling about the matter. He accused the Ministry of " endless delay and excuses."
Mr. R. Gresham Cooke (Cons., Twickenham) asked if the amended Regulations could include the words "annoyance or inconvenience to the public." It was, he said, a strongly held feeling that the police would have a much easier task in prosecuting offenders if these words werein the Regulations.
Mr. Hay promised to have a look at this somewhat complex and technical matter. "We will consider that technical point and we shall take advice on it," he said.
NEW HANSON DEPOT
HANSON HAULAGE, LTD., are to build a new transport terminal at Leeds Road, Huddersfield. Construction will start on July 1. Included in the long-term plans for the terminal are facilities for helicopter freight services.
