Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

JJAVING established a good market for its LC-type balanced half-drop window, the Rawlings Manufacturing Co., Ltd., of 1-29, Larch Road, London, S.W.12, has now produced a non-balanced type, to be known as model WR, to meet a demand for a lower-priced article without sacrificing anything in the nature of quality.

As is well known, the LC window has the balance incorporated in the top channel, which is fixed to the glass, and it constitutes a useful fitting for vehicles in which the windows are, of necessity, wide.

The new WR window has a simple locking device, providing a positive holdUpon the, window in either direction, also a simple spring-loaded wedge to prevent rattling. The mechanism is suitable for windows up to 3 ft., or possibly 3 ft. 4 ins. wide.

Apart from the top halves of the runs, which contain the locking mechanism and are made of brass, the frame is now being supplied in duralumin, so that, for a useful and popular size, the metal _parts, comprising frame, rail and locking mechanism, ,weigh about 41 lb.

Within the top channel is a it-in. mild-steel rod, bushed to prevent rattling, to which is screwed a moving trigger. ' Raising of the trigger causes the turning of a short arm at each end of the rod, this arm pressing down a vertical locking wedge. This frees a locking rocker and, through the medium of a spring, causes the rocker to move out of engagement with a bronze rack, which is soldered and riveted into the "side channel., A divided friction pad, the parts of which are connected by a coil spring in compression, is located at the lower end/of the window on 'eachside, and, apart from preventing rattle, affords . some friction when the window is being lowered. The appeal of the new Rawlings mechanism is its simplicity, and this fact. has evidently been-recognized, for we understand that the company has received, amongst other orders, a contract for many thousands of the units, to be supplied to °nest of the most prominent transport undertakings in the country. incidentally, the upper or movable half of the window can be removed, if required, without interfering with the lower half.
