There's a danger, which at CM we're as prone to as anyone else, to develop preconceptions when it comes to "new" names, especially one that hails from what used be within the Soviet bloc. That's to forget, though, that the Czech Republic has a fine engineering heritage at least equal to Germany's.

True, the Avia 0120 we tested had a few minor quibbles, Some could be sorted out with a brief visit back to the dealer, while others, such as the front suspension and engine mounting calibrations, would benefit from resetting to UK specific tastes, but as stated, other brands are equally guilty, certainly in the suspension department. These handful of issues aside, the 0120 did impress us far more than we expected.

The economy, with no special preparation, was a high spot, but the overall package proved itself the measure of most of its rivals.

A 12-tonner that does the job of two premium 7.5-tanners for less than the cost of one deserves a closer look.
