DESPITE earlier fears, the Severn Bridge is open to 39-tonn although the current single lane restrictions on both carriagebetween 4-8 am will remain.
The DTp said this was a precaution against overloading du. peak commercial vehicle use and would allow emergency serv room to operate.
Outside the above hours the bridge reverts to normal four-I operation, although each lane is still coned off allowing no over in g.
Although they have been in possession of the consultants rei on the major restructuring work required since before the gen election, the government has yet to declare its intention on a I gramme of repair work. Since its opening 16 years ago the bri has not been fully resurfaced.
