IRU Press for TIR Extension in UK

A T the recent meeting of the TIR committee of the 1RU considerable concern was expressed at the unsatisfactory position regarding TIR clearance in the UK. Delegates were surprised to note that the British Government still refuses to implement fully the TIR Convention so that TIR operates only from the roll-on/roll-off ferry ports and not from inland points as on the Continent.

It was unanimously agreed to press for full application of the TIR system by British Customs. Both the Road Haulage Association and the Traders' Road Transport Association were urged to co-operate in making representations.
