Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IS GARDNER keeping an uprated version of its longserving 6LXIt engine under wraps until the Commercial Vehicle Show at Earls Court in September ?

Rumours are rife this week that the Patricroft-based firm has rated the six-cylinder engine at around 200bhp, which would allow operators to run at the full 32 tons gcw.

Breathing At present the 6LXB is only rated at 136kW (183 bhp), which restricts it to 30 tons gew, while the maximum capacity UK vehicle is catered for by the 180kW (242bhp) eight-cylinder 8LXB.

It is thought that the power increase has been achieved by attention to the engine breathing specifically in the area of inlet and exhaust manifolding and that no increase in fuel input has been necessary.

Gardner would not confirm or deny the report ; the company merely stated that "making intelligent guesses, it would be nice if we had a 200-horse engine."
