Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The cult of the theatrical apology for imperfect service or goods is growing. I suspect strong competition among culprits to produce the best show, which may encourage still more imaginative complaints. Indeed, musical apologies are among the best spots in That's Life on BBC television.

South Yorkshire PTE, responding to a passenger's complaint about a bus with a leaking roof, put on a choral performance that would not have disgraced the Two Ronnies The cast comprised Allan Marshall, public relations officer, and road and office staff, who performed against a background of PTE waterproof buses.

It would be interesting to know how much these wellrehearsed entertainments cost. I suspect that they are an expensive form of apology.
