about the likely progress in coming to a decision on the building of the Channel Tunnel, but is anyone taking official interest in the effects of such a tunnel upon road transport?
AThe DoE is well aware of the views of such bodies as the Road Haulage Association and the Freight Transport Association upon the road transport requirements if such a tunnel were built. Recently, the European Conference of Ministers or Transport decided to appoint a special group to study the implications of the tunnel for European ground transport. This group is unlikely to start operating before the Autumn of this year.
