targets for 'smalls' drivers

'111 A bonus scheme applying to all grades of staff, which is likely to put drivers in the £1,800-£2,000 a year earning bracket is to be launched shortly by A. Peckham and Co. Ltd.

The staff at Packham's four depots (London, Southampton, Bristol and Cullompton) were advised of this in Contact—the weekly news letter which is a key feature of the lively Peckham management philosophy.

In tune with the Back Britain movement— though stemming from the company's own highly original approach—productivity groups are to be set up at every depot and at the company's head office in north London.

The groups will comprise: 1 collection and delivery driver: 1 trunk driver (from all trunk drivers who are not attached to any particular depot); 1 fitter; 1 clerk; 1 loading bank or warehouseman; 1 traffic manager: 1 area manager and the chief executive (Mr. Ian Howard).

The productivity groups will generally be chaired by Mr. Philip Peckham, chairman and managing director of the company. Mr. Howard told me this week that he would be delighted if the Packham drivers hit the high earnings target.
