THE new B.R.S. general haulage depot at Wolverhampton New Road, Oldbury, was officially opened on Wednesday.

Replacing three smaller depots, Kingswinford, West Bromwich and Dudley, the depot provides a country-wide service for customers by means of trunk services, regular services and "tramp" vehicles. It consists of three main buildings, a transit shed 65 ft. by 55 ft., an office block and a maintenance section with accommodation for four vehicles.

The depot can operate 100 vehicles and an equal number of semi-trailers. The fleet ranges from 6-ton, 4-wheel vehicles to maximum capacity rigids. Approximately a third of the fleet is articulated and there is special equipment for dealing with loads of exceptional lengths.

The depot stands in a six-and-a-halfacre site and the two-storey office block provides 3,300 sq. ft. of floor space. Automatic lubrication equipment is fitted in the maintenance section and there is covered washing space for two vehicles.

There is ample space for vehicle parking-up to 120 vehicles can be accommodated-and in addition there is an area for the coupling and uncoupling of semitrailers, with special concrete trailer curbs.

Mr. H. V. Davis will be in charge of the depot and 130 drivers will be employed, in addition to maintenance and clerical staff.
