Leyland plant

LEYLAND Truck and Bus is going ahead with a comprehensive £33.7million technical centre at its Leyland Lancashire headquarters. The first phase of thi's development worth £19million will be completed by 1980.

This announcement brings the total investment on major facilities detailed this year by the company on this site to more than £65million.

Earlier this year Leyland Truck and Bus announced plans for a £31.8million new truck assembly hall at Leyland.

The Technical Centre will enable Leyland Truck and Bus to compete more effectively with the major producers of commercial vehicles in Europe.

About 200 testing operations staff will be housed there initially who will work on new developments and inservice problems.

COMPLAINT of lack of punctuality in handling appointments for the testing of commercial vehicles at the Wallasey Testing Centre was made at a meeting of the Surface Transport Committee of Merseyside Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The complaint is to be taken to a meeting of the Area Maintenance Committee.
