Buyers' Names

ISTR.6 of transport units has been another great success, 86 per cent. of the vehicles having been sold. It comprised seven units with premises at Dowlais, Ely, Folkestone, Louth, Swaffham, Tiptree and Wells, of which six, including 147 vehicles, have been sold. The unsold unit is at Dowlais.

Ely unit, which includes premises at 51 Station Road, and 20 licensed vehicles, two licensed trailers, and three additional vehicles, has been purchased by a finance company. It is being split up and sold piecemeal by the Peterborough Engineering Co., 44 Eye Road, Peterborough. Already one vehicle has been sold to Hauliers (Eastern), Ltd., Bishop's Stortford. The vehicles for sale include four articulated outfits, three tippers, four six-wheelers and an eight-wheeler on ccmtract. The Tiptree depot, comprising premises in Church Road, 34 vehicles on special A licences (91 tons) and three spares, has gone to Kilby and Davison, Ltd., Bedford. Nineteen of the vehicles are articulated outfits, and there are four tippers and a van.

Unit to be Split

As reported in The Comtnercial Motor on November 18, the vehicles will be divided amongst a number of hauliers whose names have not been disclosed. The Swaffham unit has returned to the former owner, Mr. T. C. Grange (Granges Transport Services, Ltd.), Wells, Norfolk. It consists of premises at Rookery Farm, 14 licensed vehicles (50 tons) and two additional lorries. Six articulated outfits, two eight-wheelers, a six-wheeler and a van are included. Mr. Grange is at present operating a fleet of special A-licence vehicles carrying 'livestock and meat, as well as general goods, from Wells and Sal ltho rpe,

Crewe Buyer at Folkestone

Gleave Transport (Audlem), Ltd., Audlem, near Crewe, have bought the Folkestone unit. This consists of premises in Park Road, Sheriton, Tilekiln Lane and Asheley Avenue, 25 licensed vehicles (87 tons) and three spares, including three articulated outfits, four tippers and a van. Cleave Transport, who have already bought and sold a large number of exB.R.S vehicles, are understood to be considering whether or not to run the depot themselves. Mr. S. Ball, of S. Ball and Son (Transport), Ltd., Chipping Sodbury, told The Commercial Motor on Tuesday that he had heard a rumour that his tender for the Wells depot had been accepted. This .unit comprises premises in Princes Road,. Theatre Gardens and Priory Road, as well as 20 vehicles on special A licences (96 tons) and two additional lorries. Six articulated outfits, five eight-wheelers, seven six

wheelers and a van are included. S. Ball and Son had tendered unsuccessfully for this unit when it appeared in an earlier list.

The Wells depot was owned before nationalization by Mr. G. WillmOtt, Princes Road, Wells, who returned to general haulage in April last year and is now operating nine lorries on special A licences and three on ordinary A licences. Both Mr. Arthur Rhodes, of Nottingham, and McVeigh Transport, Ltd., Convamore Road. Grimsby, said on Tuesday that their tenders for the Louth unit had been rejected.
