• A new production unit, especially designed for volume output of aluminium freight containers, became fully operational at the factory of Metropolitan-Carnmell Ltd. on Wednesday of last week.
The unit is over 1-mile long and operates on a flow-line basis. It will be turning out an order for 2,000 lightweight containers for the Manchester Liners' transatlantic route, which forms part of a contract obtained by MetroCammell worth £11-m.
The new production facilities are part ot the company's development plans as largescale container manufacturers.
