A MEETING of Mendip quarry tipper r-V hauliers was due to be held on Wednesday, when it was hoped that a chairman and committee would be appointed to run the Stoke Lane Group. Progress in this direction has been made by the formation, in all the quarries concerned, of working committees.
There is a certain amount of speculation in the area brought about by rumours that the Asham quarry. near Frome, which employs many Contract A hauliers as well as running its own C-licensed fleet, has been taken over by the Hoveringham Group.
A spokesman for Hoveringham confirmed that the quarry had been taken over and said it was likely that the group would follow its usual practice of eniploying mainly its own transport.
