Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I FIND n LAMENTABLE that you failed to run an obituary of an old firm, Lloyds of Ludlow. The company ceased trading very recently and I think its passing deserves a mention.

The firm originated in the 1930s and was one of the pioneers of international transport. It went to most European countries when others would fear to tread past Dover.

This company has shown great integrity in knowing when and how to quit.

In addition, I think that the attitude of the local council stinks. It circled like a vulture above Lloyds' yard. They have made plans for and carried out surveys for something they do not, and hopefully will never, own.

It sums up the low esteem in which transport in the UK is held in. I now work for a firm formed in 1928 and companies of this ilk are the bedrock on which all today's haulage companies are built.

These are not the new "go-ahead" companies which make large profits and are gone tomorrow, leaving others to pick up the bits, but the companies who employ local people.

You carried an advertisement for Lloyds' sale; now please acknowledge their contribution to the UK haulage industry.

And to anyone out there who works for a long established family company —now is the time to stand up and fight for our industry.

There are not many of us left, and we are fragile.
