A The Fire Protection Association, Alder' mary House. Queen Street, London. EC4, says that while glass itself is noncombustible, the ordinary grade resins used in the production of glass fibre reinforced polyester resin {GRP) are highly combustible.

Ordinary grade GRP burns easily, giving off a great deal of smoke and in several Cases of fires in vehicles with GRP bodywork the vehicle has been completely destroyed. However, flame-retardant grades of GRP, made with flame-retardant polyester resin, are available.
