Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Iveco Ford Truck is about to introduce several new Cargo models from 7.5 to 38 tonnes GVW in one of the most significant revisions to the range since its launch in 1981. Many of the revisions follow increasing activity at the SVO (Special Vehicles Operations) department at Langley since Iveco Ford was formed last July.

As well as the 6x2 version of the 38-tonne GCW Cargo 3828 (see page 20), a Petroleum Regulations package, including insulated-return wiring, front-mounted exhaust and anti-lock on the drive axle has been introduced for the topweight Cargo tractor.

In anticipation of the change to 17 tonnes from 1 April next year, Iveco Ford has uprated its 16-tonners and identified them with a '17' prefix. The company has also published a concise guide to how the 17 tonne legislation will affect operators.

Middleweight Cargos have also undergone gross weight revisions, with 13.2-tonne GVW models replaced by 13.7tonners, which are given a '14' prefix. Iveco Ford has introiduced five 12-tonne GVW Cargos, allowing operators to take advantage of the favourable VED threshold at this weight.

At 7.5-tonnes GVW, the Cargo has been given the option of a five-speed overdrive ZF gearbox which increases its geared maximum speed to 125krn/h (78mph) and is intended to give more comfortable and fuel efficient cruising at the motorway speed limit. Iveco Ford's commercial operations director, Alan Fox, expects the Langley plant to have built 14,800 Cargos by the end of this year, compared with just under 12,000 last year. He says the company is now ahead of its targets, both for unit sales and profitability.

In the first six months of its existence, up to December last year, Iveco Ford lost about 223 million.
