AN Ampthill by-pass must be built before weight restrictions are improved on the A507, says the Road Haulage Association.

It has lodged a strong objection to the restriction order for a 3-ton (unladen weight) limit proposed by the Bedfordshire County Council.

The pinch point in Ampthill has caused minor difficulties for a long time, says the RHA in a letter to the County Surveyor, Mr A. W. Brown, but although the A507 is not the ideal road it is the best available.

The proposed restriction will cause major problems, the RI-IA continues. Heavy traffic will be forced to go through Luton, one of the most congested areas in the county.
