OPERATORS who fail to keep their vehicles at the points set out in their licence applications or who allow drivers to take them home at night, can expect to be called to public inquiry.

This was made clear by the West Midland Licensing Authority, Mr A. A. Crabtree, at Birmingham on October 5, when three operators appeared before him.

J. Thornhill and Sons Ltd, Birmingham, had allowed a driver on market work to take his vehicle home ready for a 5.30am start. owned only two tractors and intended to hire the trailers. It was found impossible to do so and it was necessary to buy them, with resulting parking problems.

Following complaints by the local council, a new site had been acquired and had been in use for two months. It was intended to build a depot on the site.

The LA said he would take no action as things were now more satisfactory. He warned that operators must not make changes in their parking or maintenance arrangements without prior notice to the Licensing Authority.
