CLOSING DATE • The European Community Council of Ministers is about to decide whether to increase the size of the EC quota of multi-lateral permits which allow holders to carry goods freely throughout the Community.

British operators are invited to bid for the additional EC permits before the deadline, December 1. The permits will only be offered to those operators who are prepared to surrender existing West German, Italian or Spanish general quota permits from their 1987 allocation; the minimum number of permits bid should be 45 from at least two of the three countries and include at least 25 West German, 30 Italian or 15 Spanish.

All returned bi-lateral .permits will be redistributed by the DTp.

Bids should be sent to EC Permits, International Road Freight Office, Dip, Westgate House, Westgate Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne NE1 1TW. Envelopes should be marked 'EC for the attention of Mrs R Brady' in the top left-hand corner.

Successful applicants will be notified as soon as possible; the permits, will, as usual, cost 2105.
