• Philip Henman, the founder of Transport Development Group, died on November 8, aged 86.
He joined the General Lighterage Company in 1922 and bought it out in 1929. By the time Henman retired in 1969 the company, renamed Transport Development Group, had 13,000 employees and operated more than 4,500 commercial vehicles with 80 subsidiaries throughout Britain and in Holland, France, Australia and the USA.
