Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

In the third addition of BS 330, Stranded wire ropes for haulage purposes, metric sizes are basic, although dimensions, breaking loads and weights in imperial units continue to be shown as approximate equivalents for guidance when using existing equipment. Designers and users are urged by the British Standards Institution to take steps to enable metric-sized ropes to be used.

Apart from the new metric sizes, a number of other important changes include closer tolerances on size and a reduced range of construction. Four constructions are now offered, of which two are in round strand and two include triangular strand. The total range of sizes covered by the constructions [s from 8mm to 38mm.

The specification covers material, manufacture, inspection, testing, acceptance, certification and delivery. Tables give calculated weights of ropes for guidance together with, minimum breaking loads.

Recommendations for the selection, storage, handling and maintenance of wire ropes, Information to be given with the inquiry or order, terminology and definitions are provided in appendices.
