Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• During the course of heavy goods vehicle plating and testing an identification problem has arisen concerning Ford Trader vehicles, states an MoT notice, which continues:—

"There were four basic types of engine fitted to the Ford Trader range of vehicles, namely 508 E, 510 E, 528 E and 530 E, all of which are interchangeable. These four numbers have also been used as chassis model prefixes for the range so that it is possible, for instance, to have a 508 E chassis fitted with a 530 E engine. If an operator quoted this particular engine prefix on the application form for vehicle plating and testing instead of the chassis prefix, it might be considered to be a 3-ton payload vehicle when it is, in fact, a 5-tonner. As the models in this range are very similar in outward appearance there is a possibility that such vehicles may be wrongly plated.

"When submitting an application for a Ford Trader to be tested, operators should, therefore, ensure that the chassis model code is correctly quoted and not the engine code.

"On the Ford Trader vehicles the chassis model number is usually marked on a plate which is fitted within the engine compartment. This plate is normally situated below another plate which shows the engine code number and chassis number."
