Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Apart from the exhibits of petrol, steam and electric vehicles, which are described on the preceding pages, almost all the other exhibitors will show something of interest to those who are concerned with various branches of municipal work, particularly those who have any connection with road construction and maintenance, and the various plant which is required for conducting such operations.

The following is merely an epitome et what these exhibitors are showing, and if there is anything in their display which merits greater attention, it will be dealt with in our report issue of the exhibition. Shelf-Mex, Ltd., will have on exhibition on Stands Nos. 5 and 6, Rbw A, in the Main Hall, samples of bitumen suitable for various types of road constructional work, including sand and clinker carpeting, asphalt macadam, asphalt grouting and surface dressing, and bitumen suitable for mixing with tar in the manufacture of tarred macadam. Sections of bituminous roads will also be on exhibition, as well as petroleum products.

The outstanding exhibits on Stand No. 1, Row D, in the Main Hall, which is occupied by Fleming and Co., will be a 5 ton end-tipping wagon fitted with steel tyres and a 5 ton end-tipping wagon fitted with rubber tyres, both wagons being equipped with a patent door at the back which allows road material to be distributed evenly. Various devices for

loading motor vehicles will also be on view, Various types of brushes for the Laflly motor sweeping machine, as well as various texture brushes for preparing roads to receive tar and also for applying tar, will be shown on Stand No.. 2, Row D, in the Main Ball, which is occupied by W. and F. Archer.

Johnston Bros. will show, on Stand NON. 1, 2 and 3, Row E, in the Main Hall, a midget patching outfit and a grit sprinkler which may easily be attached to an ordinary steam or petrol wagon.

H. V. Smith and Co., Ltd., are con. tractors for the laying of roadways With Trinidad asphalt macadam, and examples of this paving will be shown on Stand No. 4, Row E, in the Main Hall.

The well-known reinforcements as adopted for concreted roads and public works constructions, which are made by Johnson's Reinforced Concrete Engineering Co., Ltd., will be shown on Stand No 6, Row E, in the Main Hall.

The Highways Construction, Ltd., will show on Stand. Nos. 5 and 6, Row F, in • tho Main Hall, samples of Monolastics which is used for road construction.

Expanded steel sheet reinforcement for concrete, which has been used extensively during the past 30 years in road and bridge construction, as well as rotary diamond mesh expanded steel-a new products-which is suitable as a reinforcement for concrete roads, will be exhibited by the Expanded Metal Co., Ltd.; on Stand No. 13, Row F, in the Main Hall.

Glutrin is a product of pine wood and is suitable for binding any class of road material, especially that which is too hard or dense to make into tar macadam. It will be shown by Arthur Newsome on Stand No. 16, Row F, in the Main Hall.

Romeo binder is a silico-saccharatecarbonate, and is formed by the combination of Romac solution with carbonate of lime. It is a waterproof binder for macadam, and will be shown on Stand No. 1, Row F, in the Main Hall, Hadfields, Ltd., will have two machines in motion on Stand Nos. 1, 2 and 3, Row G, in the Main Hall. One is a combined, c24. portable stone breaker and screen for ordinary macadam and ballast purposes, the other machine being the Heela disc crusher, an appliance for " top-dressing."

A striking feature on Stand No, 5, Row A, in the Gilbev Hall, which will be occupied by the "Zondervan Works, will be a working hoist fitted with a 11 motor.

Tarmacadam mixing plant and the Acme stone breaker will form the exhibit of Goodwin, Barsby and Co., on Stand. Nos. P and 10, Row A, in the Gilbess Hall.

The type of road, of which a sample will be shown by Alfred S. Grunspasi, on Stand No. 12, Row A, in the Gilbey Hall, is formed of pre-cast concrete discs, 2 ft. in diameter and 6 ins. thick. The spaces formed, between the jextapo,sed discs are filled by blocks which are a:lso pre-cast. The blocks are held together by dowel pins, which are fitted from the surface into holes left for the purpose, in the blocks. The covering material of the road, viz,, asphalt or grout, is worked into the spaces between the blocks and into the holes left in their centres, thus further keying the blocks together. The Jeffrey self-Propelled wagon loader will be shown on Stand No. 1, Row C, in the Gilbey Hall, by Hugh Wood and Co., Ltd. This is a machine which is used by many municipal authorities for loading their mechanical vehicles.

Tarslag, Ltd., will show samples of their well-known tar macadam made from blast furnace slag. They will occupy Stand No. 1, Row D, in the Gilbey Hall. Samples of Bitusan, which is supplied in four grades, for surface spraying, for making bituminoue rnacadaaa and for grouting, will also be shown.

Stand No. 1, Row B, in the gallery, will be occupied by Electro-Metals, Ltd., who will be showing a working model of a drying machine suitable for drying all classes of road materials.

The Indented Bar and Concretegngi neering 'Ltd., will show on. Stand No 1, -Row 0, in the Gallery, specimen rolls of triangle mesh, the grades being made for use on roads, carrying light, medium, and heavy traffic. On Stand No. 4, Row B, in the Gal

lery, the Walker-Weston Co, Ltd., will exhibit double-layer reinforcement, showing the combination of the layers in a framework in which the wire and bars are equally distributed over the whole area of the concrete.

A sample of B.R.C. road slab showing the arrangement of B.R.C. fabric in read foundation concrete or complete.concrete roads will be shown by the British Reinforced Concrete Engineering Co., Ltd., on their Stands Nos. 7 and 8, Row F.„ in the Main Hall. This meth oU a road construction was introduced as long ago as 1911.

Tarmac is a widely known material for tar-bound road construction, end it is manufactured of selected blast-furnace slag, and the company's specially prepared tar composition. Samples will be shown on Stands Nos. 3 and 4, Row A, in the Gilbey Hall, by the manufacturers, Tarmac, Ltd.

The two Victoria mixers shown on Stand No. 5, Row C, in the Main Hall, by Stothert and Pitt, Ltd., are drivers by petrol engines, and are fitted with. standardside loaders... Other exhibits include a large concrete block making machine and stone drier and mixing plant.. Tarco, bi-tarco and taisepray4 machines and petrol-driven mixera wilt be shown on Stands Nos. 5 and 6, Row G, in the Main Hall, by R. S. Clare and Ltd. Co.,he exhibit of the Barb Engineering on Stand No 7, Row B, in' the Gallery, will consist of a sample of Wonpees road fabric, which is a cont'inuons roll of jointiess reinforcement manufactured from bright, hard-drawn steel wire of high elastic limit with a tensile strength of 35-40 tons per sq. in.

Brown, Tawse, Lid., will show 0:1 Stand No. 9, Row E, in the Main Hall, examples of their B. and T. reinforcement, which is manufactured from mild steel, which is cold-twisted and thus eliminates the first stretch in the., material.

C. H. McGuinness and C0., Ltd., have already become familiar in the municipal world as contractors for all types of new and second-hand plant, and information will be obtainable from their Stand, No. 9, Row D, in the Main Hall, of steam and petrol rollers, steam wagons, sleeping vans and other municipal equipment.

The Ingersoll Rand Co., Ltd., will exhibit on Stand No. 7, Row B, in the Main Hall, examples of modern compressed air appliances for road making and maintenance of highways Berman jointing, which is suitable for internal-combustion engines, Marine engines, etc., will ho shown by Thomas and Bishop, Ltd., on Stand No. 1, Row A, in the Main Hall.

Venesta plywood is well-known in connection with the motor industry, for it has been used for some Icing time for van body constructon and examples of the material will be shown by Venesta, Ltd., on Stand No, 6, Row B, in the Main Hall.

National benznle in its various stages of production and heavy and medium N.B.C. lubricating oils will be shown on Stand No. 4, Row D, in the Main Hall, by the National Benzele Co.' Ltd.

The Anglo-American Oil Co.'s most attractive exhibit will show to garage owners a typical country roadside petrol service station on Stand No. 10, Row B, in the Main Hall.
